The '73 Jeans' collection is the pinnacle representation of Pepe's rich heritage in all things denim. SS08 sees the collection explore more tough and rugged looks. Inspiration comes from American rural workwear, the affects of farming and working the land gives rise to denim's with a sun-faded and scorched feel.
The 73 signature sartorial elements such as tailored WB's and leather trimming remain. An offer of slim regular and loose fits is enriched with rich metal-stud and chunky zip styling. Aggressive detailing, such as multiple eyelet patterns and leather applique's feature strongly. A dash of flash is added through metallic thread stitching in bronze and silver.
Reacting against the current trend for sophisticated and clean looks, Pepe is pioneering a return to more used garment finishing. Hard core bleaching and severe weathered washes are the key for SS08. New ways of manipulating fabrics with resins gives rise to 3-d crunched moustaching and smooth polished surfaces. Fabrics feature rich melanges of colour. Saturated indigo yarns are beaten and worked to express a rich spectrum of blues and smokey grey's.
Complementing the 73 denim offer is a select collection of garment dyed jackets and ring-yarn sweats. Vintage twills and slubby canvases are beaten and washed to authentic perfection.
WOMEN
For SS08 Pepe's premium collection for women, '73 Jeans' offers a comprehensive range of denim from relaxed and heavily washed to sophisticated and clean.
The high summer 'relaxed' look features 'hillbilly' dungarees with detachable bibs, boyfriend fitting jeans and (deliberately) naive hand-rendered stitch detailing. Washes are sun-faded and beaten. A tough edge is added through eyelet and metal-stud pocket embellishments. In this area of the collection, Pepe is pioneering a return to more used garment finishing. The trend for 'dressed-up' and sophisticated denim continues with an offer of sassy hot-pants, skirts and slim fitting rinse-washed pieces. The high waist look is cleverly made both wearable and sexy by combining corset styling with traditional jean design in several pieces from skirts to full-length jeans. Some styles feature double WB's with the first band falling low on the body, giving the optical illusion of a more compact butt. The 'luxe' element of the collection is enhanced with Leather trims, stitched in metallic silver and gloss threads.
