Buying lingerie as a gift can be the perfect personal gift but also has the potential to be fraught with risk so we have prepared a few helpful hints to guide you to make the right choice.
Undergarments, lingerie or smalls (as they are sometimes called :)) are the basis of any woman’s wardrobe and the right set of underwear has the power to make any woman feel great, empowered, sexy and of course comfortable.
With so many options, design and styles, how do you know what size or style to invest in?
We have put together this handy guide to help you make sure you get it right.
Perfect present or a disaster?
Some women would be delighted to open a box of lovely lacy delights but others may feel this is a very personal choice and prefer to shop for their own intimates. Take a moment to make sure this is the best gifting option for your lady and that she would be pleasantly surprised with your thoughtful gift.
How do I know what size to buy?
This may sound obvious but lingerie, especially bras have multiple sizing options and styles and it’s not “one size fits all” or as simple as S, M, L.
The ideal scenario would be to take a peek in her delicates drawer (preferably without getting caught :)), to give you an idea of the styles, colours and size that she wears.
While knowing what size she wears for knickers or panties is pretty simple (eg S, M, L) but take note of the styles she likes as there is quite a variety to choose from bikinis, hipsters, tangas so on and so forth.
Bra’s however require a little more investigation as you’ll notice the labels come with two separate measurements. In this case, take note of both the number (which represents the size of the back band eg. 32, 34, 36 etc) and the letter (which represents cup size: A, B, C etc) and together these give you the bra size you will be shopping for ie. 34B, 36D etc.
Style matters!
To make things even more confusing, a bra is never simply a bra: they come in an array of styles.
Take note on what styles she already owns and this will give you an indication of the shape, colour and patterns that she prefers. believe it or not,
As a general rule, balconette style bras suit women with fuller breasts as they offer support while plunge styles are better suited for women with narrower shoulders or or smaller cup sizes. Fuller cup bras are best suited to larger busted women while non-wired styles are best for small breasted ladies.
If this is sounding a little too daunting then you can always look at other non lingerie options too.
Non-lingerie, lingerie options
Gifting your partner lingerie doesn’t need to be a bra and knickers and the great news (and sometimes safest option) is there is plenty of other lovely options to choose from.
Sleepwear and loungewear is a great alternative and offers a variety of options to suit everyone.
If she likes luxurious lace and fabrics then opt for a glam chemise, nightdress or robe.
Or, if she loves nothing better than to get home and climb into comfy P.J’s or a cosy dressing gown, then this is what will put a smile on her face.

PS: not all women like tiny lacy g-strings so remember you are buying a gift for her, and not for you. Choose items, designs and styles that she would like and would make her feel fabulous, and she will surely appreciate the time, energy and thoughtfulness you have put into buying her a very special gift.
